Designing Healthcare Software Patients Actually Trust

HIPAA compliance tells you what you're not allowed to do. It doesn't tell you how to design a portal a nervous patient will actually feel comfortable using the night before a procedure.

Reduce cognitive load at the moments that matter

Patients using a portal are often anxious, tired, or in pain. Every unnecessary field, ambiguous label, or unclear next step compounds that stress. We test flows specifically under time pressure, not just for usability in the abstract.

Make privacy visible, not just real

Being compliant behind the scenes isn't enough — patients need to see clear, plain-language explanations of who can see their data and why, right where they're asked to share it.
